"On Thrifting": Does demand play an important role in determining the value of thrifted items, and does this differ from demand in retail?

"I"m a Loser Baby": Is the zine creator considered a loser because their alternative beliefs do not affect the mainstream, or simply because they have these alternative beliefs?

"I'm a loser baby": Why do you think zine magazines are only associated with geeks?

"My beautiful wickedness: Do you think that the author is using his own ideologies to make us think that homosexuality was present in the wizard of oz?

The Wizard of Oz: Alexander Doty provides a very convincing argument to the reading of the wizard of oz. He recognizes that the text can be read many ways but when someone (he) implies a homosexual reading on a text that is so widely viewed and accepted in our culture his argument loses all water. Why is there sexual preference and ownership to items that can technically be neither?

ON THRIFTING: In youth culture name brands help you gain social status within public schools. If you wear the big new name brand clothes, you are considered "cool." This along with advertisements subject us that reusing clothing should be beneath us. Has thrifting become more acceptable in a middle class culture?

Hoth, why do you guys think that gay men connect with Judy Garland and her story?

Hoth, Zuberi identifies the skinhead as response to a diversifying population in England after World War II, please address the hippie movement in England, and how skinhead and punk music was reacting against it as well.

Alderaan, in the first paragraph Duncombe describes the typical zine editor as someone who "does better in a written forum than face-to-face". Do you guys think that growing use of technology stunts our ability to communicate without it?

Alderaan, do you guys shop at thrift stores?
also
Do you think that over-priveleged shoppers choose thrift stores over more expensive alternatives, in order to project an image of lower socio-economic status?

My beautiful wickedness:
Explain the significance of the slippers as a fetishized carrier of power in this reading.
I'm a loser baby: Is zine creation a reclamation of loserness or is it an attempt to dispel the aura of loserdom by turning it into something 'cool'?

Alderaan: Do you think writing zines is an attempt to find agency in a two-faced media culture?

Hoth: In Zuberi's article he talks about the "levels of irony." Do you think this is a result of something historical, or does it say something about british ideologies?
